New milestones in 2012 for MedMedia Group

2012 marks the 21th anniversary of the establishment of MedMedia Group. Since 1991, MedMedia Group has grown from a two-person startup to become Ireland's largest healthcare communications group, employing over 25 staff and dozens of external contributors across three business divisions in our Dun Laoghaire headquarters.

The core publishing business has grown from one title in 1991 to a full range of titles, many of them leaders in their sectors. MedMedia Group titles have the greatest reach of any Irish healthcare publisher, including medical, nursing and allied health professionals.

In 2010 MedMedia Group bought out the full stable of titles run by M+C Publishing. These include:
• Modern Medicine of Ireland
• Hospital Doctor of Ireland
• Scope
• Irish Psychiatrist
• Irish OTC Directory.

Meanwhile, our major consumer healthcare website, Irishhealth.com continues to grow. Launched in August 2000, by early 2012, its registered membership broke the 150,000 mark – a phenomenal achievement for a specialist site operating in a territory the size of Ireland. In an average month, the site receives some 450,000 visits from over 200,000 'unique users'. Irishhealth.com was also recently awarded a Silver Medal in the International 'WWW Health Awards', a prestigious US-based competition.

MedMedia Group also launched the influential 'Rate My Hospital' rolling online survey section in September 2006. This has attracted ongoing public and media interest and is now widely seen as the most authoritative independent source of information on the operation of the hospital system in Ireland. 'Rate My Hospital' was honoured with a World Summit Award in Venice in November 2007, in a global competition organised under the auspices of the United Nations.

Both these site were developed, designed and wholly funded by the MedMedia Group and its Directors, who have retained full control of its shareholding.

MedMedia Campaign (MMC), our specialist healthcare creative services agency, was set up as a separate business in 1995 and today is the dominant agency servicing the healthcare/pharma sector in Ireland, with a huge portfolio of products, including some of Ireland's best known pharmaceuticals and OTC brands.

MMC has in the last eight years won 13 international and national awards for design and creative excellence, including the prestigious HAAG Awards (London), IMJ Design for Print (Dublin) and the RX Club of New York.

MMC has also branched into multimedia and digital marketing. In 2011, our Child Immunisation App (for iPhone) won the 'Best Educational App' award in the prestigious national Appys awards. In 2009, Migrainemonitor.ie, a web and SMS service developed by MMC won the 'Best use of IT in Healthcare' award at the Irish Healthcare Awards. In May 2010, MMC launched another highly innovative service, Dontforget.ie on behalf of Novartis Ireland.
