Our Story So Far

Our Story

2024 marks 33 years in operation for MedMedia Group. Founded by journalists, John Gibbons and Geraldine Meagan, its first venture was the launch in 1991 of a monthly journal of General Practice, Forum, in association with the Irish College of General Practitioners. Forum has been published continuously by MedMedia since then.

MedMedia's next major initiative was the launch, in 1995, of the World of Irish Nursing, official journal of the Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation, a full-colour A4 publication. Over the years, the circulation of World of Irish Nursing has grown in tandem with the growing membership of the INMO and today stands at over 33,000, making it one of Ireland's largest circulation healthcare periodicals.

We also publish Diabetes Ireland, journal of the Diabetes Federation of Ireland. 2014 saw the launch of Cardiology & Diabetes Professional, while the first quarter of 2016 saw the launch of ‘Professional Nutrition & Dietetics Review’, a quarterly title partnership with the Irish Nutrition and Dietitics Institute. In 2010 MedMedia Group took over the medical publications portfolio of M+C Group. These titles, including Hospital Doctor of Ireland, bring our total stable of active titles to 8.

Our creative agency, MedMedia Campaign (MMC) is regarded by many as the pre-eminent agency for healthcare in Ireland. It has won over 20 national and international design, digital and creative awards since 2000. MMC has a large and diverse portfolio of pharma/healthcare clients and an experienced in-house team of graphic designers, programmers, creatives and account managers.

In 2000, MedMedia launched consumer health website, Irishhealth.com. The site remains Ireland’s most popular consumer health website. The site attracts over a quarter of a million ‘unique visitors’ a month.

In 2006, we launched 'RateMyHospital.ie', Ireland's first hospital ratings website. To date, over 30,000 people have ranked their experience in hospital. 'Rate My Hospital' received a World Summit Award in a ceremony in Venice organised by the United Nations in 2007.

MedMedia Group has some 17 years’ direct experience in online publishing, and in 2013 we launched an advanced web resource for health professionals in Ireland – Irishhealthpro.com. To date, some 2,000 HCPs have registered with this advanced website, which is built around content from our HCP professional journals, and membership continues to expand.

MedMedia Group’s guiding philosophy is that the best model for sustainable success is to strive to be an enterprise that treats employees, clients, suppliers and the public with respect and professionalism and uses its resources in a manner that is least harmful to the wider environment.
